Vacation Week

July 28th is Peru's Independence Day so the schools were closed and the kids had the week off.  These are some pictures of a few things they did this week.

On Sunday, some of the kids helped Padre Juan Carlos with his sermon by holding up portions of the Lord's Prayer.  From left to right: Juan Diego, Marta, Rosa, Tamara and Padre Juan Carols.
Jimena and Wilber (on the far right) showed off their work from Sunday School class.
On Monday, Padre Daniel took the kids (and me) to a nice restaurant called Fong Mey.  The kids requested Chifa which is a blend of Chinese food and Peruvian food.
Once the food arrived, everyone dug in.
Hermelinda helps herself to the rice while Isela waits her turn.
Our hosts: Padre Daniel, his wife Vique, Deacon Victor and Senor Pedro, the director of Sagrada Familia.

On Wednesday, thanks to a special donation, the kids got to go see a movie.  We saw "Despicable Me 2".

Outing at the Movies

With some donations from friends in Texas I was able to take the kids to a movie during their week of vacation from school.  We saw "Epic" which is called "The Secret Kingdom" here in Peru.  We saw it in 3D.  This was the first time most of them got to experience 3D.  They loved it!

Roof Dogs 2013

The "Roof Dogs" from Christ Church Plano came to month to spend a week of fun with the kids at Sagrada Familia.
Waldir is showing a picture he drew of what he wants to do with his life: artist, architect, pilot, athlete.  Wow-that's a lot!  Tio Nozar looks proud.
Hermelinda shares her picture.  She wants to work in communications, maybe on the radio.
The kids broke into two groups for their lessons.
Pamela seems to be having fun.
Yasmin enjoys the lessons too.  Gimena, not so much!
I'm not sure what Tia Karen is dressed as but it seems to be part of the lesson!
Waldir and Hermelinda listening to the lesson.
From left to right: Gimena, Yasmin, Tamara, Estrella, Isela, Pamela

Tio Larry teaches a lesson on making plans for the future.

Arelis shows her drawing.  She wants to be a singer.
Teri and Laurie loved to sing with the girls!
Gimena gets a little help from Tia Tracey.
The infamous balloon game!
And a round of volleyball.
Tia Vicki watches the game.
Tia Toni and Yasmin - both beautiful!
Tracey has a chat with Diego Armando and Manuel.
Tia Kelly leads the craft.
Tia Karen works with the older girls.
Susana gives the Roof Dogs a dance lesson.
Everyone gets in on the fun.

There was also some singing involved..in English and Spanish.
On Thursday, we had lunch in the mall food court.  The kids really liked that!
Everyone got to choose what they wanted.

Then there was more dancing in Happy Land.

Some air hockey at Happy Land.
I think Waldir stayed on this guitar game for awhile.

Hermelinda and Estrella on the dance game.

And then Friday was, of course, the annual performance put on by the kids for their beloved Roof Dogs.  Wilber and Juan Diego follow Diego Armando's lead.

The girls looked very pretty in their traditional costumes.
And in their more modern costumes too!
More traditional costumes.
This is part of a mime that the kids performed.
Isela mimes about the Bible.
Our pretty mime, Yasmin

The end - the kids take a bow!
